I got this email from Mr. John Davis and had to share it with everyone! Here goes:
"HEY YALL,
Hope every one is doing well and burning off those turkey calories by being civically engaged! Here in Browning, Montana we have a local radio station 107.5 fm. For six years 04-10' the station only played old country from the 30's to the 70's and a majority of the music was the old sobbing country. So last spring/summer when I was volunteering for the Blackfeet Constitution Reform Committee myself and 2 other youth from my reservation created Leaders of Tomorrow Taken Action Today to raise awareness of the issues facing the rez' and to encourage young people to vote. So as one of my service projects I wanted to approach the local radio station and use it as an avenue to set agendas address issues and to play better and more uplifting music. So I went to city hall and asked the mayor of Browning Mr. Lockley Bremner who runs the local station, and simply asked if I could get on the station to do public service announcements, support the constitution reform and other address local issues. With that they agreed and I was the first Blackfeet person to get on the radio and talk to my people and use it as a voice of the people which was unprecedented at the time. Now i am volunteering there as a DJ, show host, and will dissuss issues on my reservation as a campus corp team leader of course..... gotta represent!! I play kick butt tunes and got a little something for everybody. I will play (my fav') Classic rock; Steve miller, The Stones, Beatles - as well as Motown, like Marvin Gaye to Dina Ross all the way to Coldplay, Cold war kids, Nat King Cole and Indian tunes. I go by DJ Captain Long Socks (its a Blackfoot term). So as team leaders and Campus Corp Members I want to do a special shot out to yall working your butts off for the better of our respective communities and will play one of your songs by request brought to you by Your Captain Dr. John here on the 107.5 fm KBWG "The Thunder" Please send me your song, some play lists or some ideas you have for its not only about the music but we can use to this to raise social awareness and promote campus corp and of course volunteering on the Blackfeet Reservation!!"
