Help Pablo Elementary win $25,000

I was reading the Missoulian this Sunday and stumbled upon THIS ARTICLE. I said to myself, "Oh! I know Pablo! That's where Jenny Wilson is at with SKC!...I've been there!" And thought, well, I should vote!

Pablo Elementary physical education teacher Darci Nice wrote an essay on what her school could do with $25,000 that beat out hundreds of other schools that submitted essays and became one of the top 10 finalists in the Henkel Help Kids Get fit contest. Click that link to vote! It takes a second and you can vote once a day.

Thought it would be nice to pass around :)

Hope everyone is staying warm and getting to work alright with all this snow!

2010 Make a Difference Day - Dawson Community College

Oh boy! Jacob, I apologize for not putting this up sooner! I've been currently working on rewriting this MLK Day of Service Grant that things have shifted down my list of things to do. EEE!

WELL! Kudos Jacob for figuring out how to upload a FACEBOOK ALBUM! Click that link for a scare!
"I was so impressed with what these Dawson students did over their Fall Break. Some basketball player, criminal justice majors, and art club members took time to drive way out into the country, dress up in full Halloween costume, and scare people all night to raise money for Relay for Life. Although the charity was not chosen by Campus Corps, the people who chose the charity requested help from our department. We had 11 students take time out of their break to assist. The job wasn't that difficult- simply scare the living daylights out of people for five hours in freezing cold temperatures. When we finished, the people who put on the event out at Cow Patty Links (yes, that's the real name) fed all of our students a warm meal, thanked them for aiding in putting on a great show, and bid them a Happy Halloween. As we were leaving, one of the basketball players, grinning ear to ear, told me it was the best time he'd had since he arrived in Glendive. Now that's what I call success."

Niiiiice Job :) Keep it up!

LEADERS TAKE A LOOK

Training Ground Grant proposals (click that link for the actual form) are due this Friday the 12th. Should take about 30 minutes to complete the form. Get $800 dollars to put on an event at your University!! It would pay for a Facilitator/Speaker, Food, a Space, etc. This gives members and non-members an opportunity to have a meaningful conversation or training in a field that is relevant to your community. Give Zach a call at 406-243-5671 for more info! Your coordinator should already have all the necessary info already though.

Jon Stephani has already applied and received this funding. He would also be a good resource for asking some questions. His email is: campuscorps@umwestern.edu

Carroll College - Make A Difference Day 2010

Carroll College participated in Make a Difference Day 2010. This is what they had to say:

"The event consisted of a meal made from locally grown produce and meats that was prepared by student and community volunteers and we ended up feeding 250 people! The Turn out was huge! After the meal, the speakers talked about why its important to focus on community gardens and the environmental changes as a whole and the importance of making that change a positive one. After the speakers, we had live entertainment with a local Bluegrass Band and dancing. Volunteers were in charge of clean-up and basically pulled off the whole event smoothly with hard work and a willingness to serve their community. The event was meant to kick-off environmental awareness and to build momentum in the community for working together to bring about sustainable living in Montana. The event provided a basis for networking and buiding upon the resources already available."

Sounds like an incredible
turnout with some great guest speakers. Well done! Check out the Facebook Album HERE!

Make a Difference Day 2010 - UM Western

Sorry for the delay with the blog posts! All you leaders have been great with sending me photos and your descriptions of the event you participated in. Here's what Jon Stephani at UM Western had to say about his Make a Difference Day:

"The Montana Western Campus Corps Team went down to Sheridan Mt. to help out the MTCC Vista Marguerite Jordy with her Garden Project. We helped to remove a patch of Dahlia's that needed to be removed prior to winter. After we had dug out all of the bulbs we sorted them into flowers that they wanted to keep for next year and then flowers that we wanted to plant at our garden in Dillon. We also helped to haul a few loads of straw to the garden to be spread out over the garden plots for winter prep. After the garden project was completed, we raked leaves for elderly citizens in Sheridan. After we were done with this project we headed to Bannack and helped the Bannack Association with their annual Theatrical Ghost Walk. All in all it was an amazing day with some great volunteers who accumulated 11 hours of service each!!!"
